Welcome to the Website of the Illinois Branch of
The International Dyslexia Association

Mission Statement:
We are dedicated to the study and remediation of dyslexia and to the support and encouragement of individuals with dyslexia and their families
.

IDA was founded in 1949 and continues the work of Dr. Samuel Orton in the study, prevention and treatment of the specific learning disability known as dyslexia that affects up to 20% of the population. Formerly known as the Orton Dyslexia Society, IDA has 48 branches in the United States in addition to 11 global partners. For more information, go to www.interdys.org

The Illinois Branch, serving the entire state of Illinois and founded in 1978, is “dedicated to the study and remediation of dyslexia and to the support and encouragement of individuals with dyslexia and their families.”

Our most successful event is the annual October conference that brings together parents, educators, individuals with dyslexia, diagnosticians, tutors and other professional persons in the region to learn, network and discover the latest research, methods and tools available for working with individuals with dyslexia. We also provide multisensory language training opportunities for teachers and tutors throughout the year and Study Groups for tutors during the school year.

Please take the time to explore this website to get to know us better. The site will change frequently as we update Branch events and add other useful information.
